Along with the household contents, those buildings hold a working life: paperwork, tools, growing materials and lofts full of things that might one day come in handy.
That is why the survey also covers the outbuildings and the rear yard, so that nothing is added later on.
More than household contents
What we find on a nursery plot
A clearance on a nursery plot runs differently from one in a terraced house, because the waste streams differ. This is how we handle them:
- Household contents and furnitureUsable items go to a second-hand shop in the region or to a charity, and the rest is separated into wood, metal, plastic and electronics.
- Growing materialsPots, trays, mesh, pallets, racking and sheeting. Often in large quantities, so we book containers for it rather than separate trips.
- Machinery and toolsAnything still in working order you can sell yourself or offer to someone in the trade. Say so at the survey and we will leave it where it is and take the rest.
- Business recordsFolders, catalogues, cultivar descriptions and photographs. You decide about those, not us. Whatever has to be kept, we set aside in boxes.
- Chemicals and crop productsOld crop protection products and fertilisers are not taken away with the ordinary waste. We have those collected by a certified processor.
Asbestos is a separate matter. It turns up regularly in old shed roofs and corrugated sheets, and only a certified removal firm may take it out. Anything that looks suspect is noted in the survey report and left in place until the removal firm has been.
Logistics
The bridge first, the van afterwards
Most plots have a narrow front yard with a bridge leading to it and a long path behind. Those bridges were not built for a loaded lorry, and the load capacity is rarely posted on them. We do not drive across them blind.
At the survey we measure the access and ask what the bridge can carry. If there is any doubt, we park the box lorry at the roadside and shuttle along the path with a smaller van or a trolley. That takes more trips, but it is in the price up front and nobody is left with a surprise.
If the plot lies on the far side of the Gouwe, we allow for the lift bridge. When it opens, a trip stands still, so we plan around it.

Closing a nursery is not an ordinary house move
No successor, a sale of the plot, or a grower who is retiring. Jobs like that often hold fifty years or more of belongings, and the people clearing them grew up among them. We take the time that asks for.
A survey of house, shed and yard
We walk through everything, the greenhouses and the storage included, and write down per building what has to come out. After that you know exactly how the price is built up.
Deciding what stays
Photographs, records, an old tool with a story: you point out what goes to the family. We set it aside before anything leaves the premises.
Finding a home for what has value
Machinery, racking and usable stock are offered to someone in the trade, to an auction or to the second-hand shop. Whatever is left we remove separately.
Left empty and clean
The house and the outbuildings broom clean, the standard Dutch handover condition, with photographs and a handover report for the buyer, the estate agent or the notary.

About Boskoop
A village in two halves, split by the Gouwe
Boskoop grew up along the water. On both banks of the Gouwe stand ribbon houses on roads such as the Reijerskoop, the Zijde and the Voorkade: narrow at the front, deep towards the back, with added sheds and old garden houses. Many of those buildings stand on peat, so sagging floors and crooked window frames come with them. With heavy items we allow for that and lay down boards or blankets.
The two banks are linked by the lift bridge, which has been keeping traffic waiting at the Gouwe since 1938 whenever a vessel passes. Residents know this, planners from outside the area usually do not. Since the municipal reorganisation of 2014, Boskoop has been part of the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, which shows in the new housing in and around the old centre, partly on land where a nursery once stood.

Questions about house clearance in Boskoop
Our house is on a long plot behind a small bridge. Will you come there?
Almost always. At the survey we look at how wide the bridge is, what it is expected to carry and how long the path to the rear of the house is. If need be we park the box lorry at the road and bring everything forward with a smaller van or a trolley.
Are the shed, the greenhouse and the old glasshouses included as well?
We can empty those in the same job. Mention them in your enquiry and we will include them in the survey and in the fixed price. For crop protection products, fertilisers and other hazardous waste we bring in a certified processor.
Our family lived and grew here for generations. Can you finish that off carefully?
In Boskoop this is one of the most common questions. We allow more time for it, start with sorting rather than with removing, and agree in advance which boxes, records and photographs are to be kept. Nothing leaves that you have not decided on.
Does Boskoop still have a municipality of its own?
No, since 1 January 2014 Boskoop has come under the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, together with Hazerswoude, Koudekerk aan den Rijn and Benthuizen among others. Permits and exemptions are applied for there.
We are selling the nursery and the buildings will be demolished. Will you do the clearance?
Emptying the house and the outbuildings is our work. The demolition itself and any soil remediation are jobs for specialist contractors. We align our schedule with that party, so that it does not become two separate projects.
Can the lift bridge upset the schedule?
On a single trip it is not much, but a clearance takes several trips and then it adds up. For an address on the far side we count the bridge into the time estimate.
The house is old and the floors are out of true. Is that a problem?
For emptying it, usually not. Buildings on peat simply settle. We spread the weight with heavy items, protect stairs and thresholds, and tell you if we see anything structural during the work that you ought to know about.
We are heirs and live a long way away. Do we have to come to Boskoop?
There is no need. The survey can be done by video, personal and valuable items are discussed with photographs, and for the key we agree an address: the notary, the estate agent or a neighbour. Afterwards you receive a photograph of the empty space in each building.
